FLEAS
| There are 60 species of fleas in this country, all adult fleas are external parasites on warm blooded animals or birds. The most common is the cat flea but it is equally at home on dogs. |
| The female lays eggs on the host animal which drop off on to the floor or the animal bedding (up to 1000 eggs) which hatch in about 7 days. |
| The larvae fully grown within 3 weeks turns into the pupa in a cocoon spun by the lava in 14 days develops into a flea, which laying in the carpet, pets bedding or in between cracks in the floor board can lay dormant up to 2 years before vibration of a passing host stimulates them to jump on to that unsuspecting host. |
